In the Katchikally Crocodile Park in Gambia you are literally surrounded by many crocodiles. That sounds scary, but it is not at all. In fact, it is one of the most popular sights in the Gambia holiday destination. The impressive animals are sacred to the Gambians and are therefore well cared for. With such well-fed animals, you don't have to worry about them nibbling on visitors. On the contrary, the crocodiles are so used to people that you can even pet them in the presence of the guides without any problems. The park is located in the far west of Gambia at the mouth of the river and close to all resort beaches. In addition to beautiful walking trails surrounded by exotic plants, the park also has a museum where you can learn more about the fascinating pangolins. Crocodiles in Gambia are also seen as a symbol of fertility and to aid in family planning. That's why some locals even take a dip in the park's swimming pool.

In the rougher and greener east of Gambia you will find Georgetown, on Janjanbureh Island. The city was an important place during the slave trade. During a city walk you can visit historic buildings, colorful houses and the beautiful Freedom Garden. From here you can also take fishing trips or boat trips in the area.

There is a special wooden lodge in the middle of the mangrove forests of the Gambia River. People often pass the lodge during a trip on the river. Although it is officially a restaurant, several excursions depart from this point. For example, kayaks are rented for exploring the area. Don't be alarmed if you see a baboon passing by out of the corner of your eye while eating a meal. The Lamin Lodge is a 15-minute walk from the Lamin village.
